The Costa Rica alternative practicum program will be in place for the 2011 - 2012 school year. All students entering their 4th or 5th year practicum, AD1 and AD2( except AD1 elementary) are eligible to apply. Students accepted into the program will do their 2012 practicum block in a school in Costa Rica. Acceptance into the program is by application only and students are responsible for the costs associated with the program. It is anticipated that placements at early, middle, and senior years in all subject areas will be available. There is an cultural and environment focus and placements are limited. September 21 - December 14, 2011: Spanish language instruction 3 hrs per week on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 – 8:30 pm.
January 6 - March 16, 2012: (1/2 day practicum on Friday morning with the faculty supervisor, Dr. Metz)
January 4 - March 14, 2012: Spanish language instruction 3 hrs per week on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 – 8:30 pm.
March 19 – May 4, 2012: Six week practicum in Costa Rica.

The school is grades 7-11 with about 550 students and has an environmental mandate. Instruction is in Spanish and all students study English as a second language. We use a team teaching format for environmental lessons, participate in ESL and discipline area classes. Middle/Senior years placements, no specific major/minor required. Students live with a local family.
